Alan Budgen is probably best known for his highly realistic landscape models. He believes it is important to study and practice traditional craft skills and use them with an artist’s eye in order to create his works. With an emphasis on finishes and detail, he creates models that replicate light, colour and the weathering of objects in their surroundings.
His illustrations often use quirky and humorous twists on well known stories and phrases. His pictures have been described as harking back to the Golden Age of book illustration, with a modern meander. In order to develop a new set of skills, Alan is currently studying guitar making in London. He is building new instruments and restoring elderly relics.
Alan was born in West Sussex in 1965. He lives and works in London.
